FedEx – the pledge, the pilots and the profit

FEDEX has hit the headlines again with an improved Express route, a new pilot pay deal and a pledge to ravaged Japan.

FedEx Express has augmented its Boeing 757 service between Munich and Paris by adding later pick-up times of up to one hour for shipments destined for Europe or Asia weighing up to 68kg.Additionally, transit times for heavy weight shipments destined for Europe or Asia weighing up to 1,000kg are faster by one to two business days.

The aircraft flies four times a week from Munich to the FedEx hub in Paris, which acts as the European hub for the company’s worldwide network.

In other news, FedEx and the Air Line Pilots Association have approved a labour agreement, which includes a three per cent pay raise. Keeping on the monetary theme, while FedEx’s anticipated third-quarter 2010 profits expect to take a battering due to storms and escalating fuel prices, its generosity has not been dampened.

FedEx has committed US$1 million to support earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan.FedEx will provide monetary or in-kind transportation support to the following relief organisations to assist in the southeast Asian nation: The American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, Heart to Heart International, Direct Relief International, Water Missions International, The United Way Worldwide, World Vision and Project Hope.

This support will allow these agencies to provide emergency and humanitarian relief to the earthquake and tsunami victims, including food, shelter, medical supplies, water purification units, blankets and hygiene kits.

FedEx has also ordered four more 777s from Boeing for around $1.08 billion.
