GSAs mull bespoke training scheme

The Federation of Airline General Sales Agents (Fedagsa) would like to see a bespoke training programme for GSAs and GSSAs – possibly as early as the end of the year, secretary general Glenn Shires told ACN in an interview.
The Swiss-based representative organisation is currently in discussions with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and is asking its member GSAs and GSSAs to send in their training requirements.
Fedagsa plans to discuss the issue at its next annual meeting in Shanghai in March and, if agreement is reached there, work will continue over the summer to devise a training programme. “It will be in place at the end of 2015 at the earliest,” Shires predicted.
Training in the air cargo industry has up to now centred on the needs of freight forwarders and airline personnel – there has been nothing tailored specifically to the needs of the sector.
Shires envisaged that the GSA/GSSA scheme would encompass security and dangerous goods training but might also include more specific areas such as capacity management.
Teaching could be by roving instructors or trainees could visit a specific location, probably once a year. All teaching and materials would be in English.
