Hahn sets new record

FRANKFURT watch out – neighbour Frankfurt-Hahn Airport saw cargo volumes escalate by 25 per cent in 2011, as the former struggles with its night-flight ban.

Hahn handled 286,416 metric tonnes of cargo, up by a quarter. With trucked airfreight added, the total throughput reached 565,344 tonnes, an increase of 21 per cent year-on-year.

Aeroflot, Air Cargo Germany, Etihad, Silk Way Airlines and Qatar Airways all performed well.

“Air Cargo Germany led the way, with its traffic rising by over 30 per cent last year,” Hahn’s marketing manager Jan Moeller comments.

In November 2010 Silk Way increased its 747-400F flights from twice-weekly to four. Qatar Airways also began operating twice-weekly from the airport with a 777F.
