Irish airfreight hub investment

SHANNON Airport (Ireland) could see a €16 million (US$21.6 million) investment in its freight operations following an agreement with international cargo group Lynx.

The sum would be used to develop and modernise existing facilities at the airport at a time when Ryanair has scaled back operations and passenger numbers have been under pressure.

Lynx is expected to market the facility to potential customers but it could be up to 12 months before a binding agreement is inked.

Plans include the construction of a 200,000 sq ft international cargo facility.
