Japans airfreight falls further

JAPAN Airlines (JAL) reported that its international cargo volume fell for six consecutive months in a row ending with January, which fell 41.5 per cent to 32,639 tons from the same month in 2008. December fell 38.5 per cent compared to the same period in 2007.

During the first 10 months of 2008’s financial year, starting in April, JAL shipped 552,793 tons internationally, a drop of 13.9 per cent from the same period 2007.

All Nippon Airways’ (ANA) international cargo volume fell for the third consecutive month in January on a year-on-year basis.

ANA transported 19,885 tons of cargo internationally in January, down 25.1 per cent. This was a slight improvement from December’s 26.9 per cent.

During the first 10 months of 2008’s financial year, starting in April, ANA shipped 283,035 tons internationally, up 3.2 percent from the same period of fiscal 2007.
