KLM and LAN Cargo settle price-fixing case

FRANCO-Dutch airline Air France-KLM and LAN Cargo have agreed a settlement in the Air Canada Cargo class action over alleged price fixing.

KLM will pay C$6.5m (US$6.5m) and LAN will pay C$700,000 ($705,300).

The lawsuits, started in Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec, alleged an unlawful conspiracy to fix prices for international air cargo shipments, leading to higher prices for businesses to move their goods from 1 January 2000 to 11 September 2006.

Court hearings to approve the settlements will take place in July and August this year.

The air carriers have not admitted to any wrongdoing or liability.
