KLM flies China to Africa direct

KLM will partner with Kenya Airways to offer its first direct air cargo service between China and Africa.

A twice-weekly Martinair 747-400 freighter will connect Nairobi (Kenya) and the industrial zone in Guangdong (China).

Air France-KLM saw a 1.7 per cent decline in cargo revenue in 2011 against the previous year. Its woes are not shared by Kenya Airways, which is planning expansion in Beirut, India and the UAE. It will also restart Karachi (Pakistan) flights in 2013. The airline’s traffic during the third quarter in the Middle East, Far East and India regions jumped 6.8 per cent. Kenya Airways will lift its fleet from 32 to 60 aircraft in the next five years.
