Large tonnage drop for Hactl in Jan

HONG Kong Air Cargo Terminals Ltd (Hactl) handled a total of 142,754 tonnes in January, representing a drop of 30.9 per cent year-on-year.

Import volume was 36,631 tonnes, down 34.7 per cent year-on-year while export recorded a total of 75,691 tonnes being handled – a decline of 32.6 per cent against the same period in 2008. Transhipment tonnage in January recorded a decrease of 20.5 per cent, with a total of 30,432 tonnes of cargo being handled.

“The current economic condition has posed a tremendous challenge to the global air cargo market,” said Lilian Chan, general manager of marketing and customer service. “We are paying unremitting efforts to review Hactl’s services and further upgrade SuperTerminal 1’s facilities, ensuring all resources are effectively deployed to support the operations when the market will hopefully be picking up in the latter half of the year.”
