LH Cargo launches multi-modal service to Australia

LUFTHANSA (LH) Cargo has confirmed news reported by Air Cargo News yesterday that it is launching a new multi-modal service to Australia.

Lufthansa’s AirShip service will allow shipments to be flown from Europe to Hong Kong (LH Cargo) or Shenzen (with its Jade Cargo International subsidiary). From there they can be sent by sea to Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney with Chinese K-Line or German Hamburg Sued shipping companies. The entire journey will be operated under a single air waybill number.

Entire shipping time will be 13-18 days, compared to 45-55 days just by sea, but with proportional sea-going savings for tied-up capital and insurance.

“AirShip transport is an addition to our td.Pro service for general cargo. With it, we are offering customers a reliable, high-quality transport solution to Australia, which ideally combines the time and cost advantages of air and seafreight,” said Lufthansa Cargo Vice President Europe/Africa J. Florian Pfaff.

Neither LH Cargo nor Jade are currently flying to Australia and this is only a one-way journey at present.
