Liege suffers after carriers leave

LIEGE reveals the loss of American carrier Kalitta Air’s business has contributed greatly to freight volumes declining further in October 2012.
Cargo at Belgium’s largest cargo airport fell by 24 per cent in October 2012.  It handled 44,114 tonnes of freight compared with 58,489 during the same period last year.
Volumes at the facility plummeted by 18 per cent in August and by 20 per cent the following month.
A spokesman states: “The significant decrease in fuel stops made by Kalitta Air has had a big influence on our traffic.”
Troubled US airline Southern Air also recently parted company with the airport.
