Lufthansa Cargo’s second new B777F arrives in Frankfurt

LUFTHANSA CARGO’s (LC) second brand new B777F has arrived at the German carrier’s Frankfurt base just days after the first one made its maiden flight to New York.
The new D-ALFB registered ‘plane christened Jambo Kenya – meaning Hello Kenya – symbolises the significance of Africa as one of the most important growth markets for global airfreight services, a statement says. The airline currently flies to four destinations within the emerging market.
A spokesperson states: “The greeting was the winning idea in a public competition held by Lufthansa Cargo to find a naming convention for its entire fleet, in advance of the arrival of the B777F.”
A jury, involving the LC board, opted for the ‘Say hello around the world’ central theme after more than 40,000 potential aircraft names were submitted. All of the freighters in the fleet (B777Fs and MD-11Fs) will be christened with greetings in more than 20 languages. 
“The Jambo Kenya greeting also illustrates the special bond between the airfreight carrier and Nairobi,” adds the spokesperson.
Lufthansa Cargo flies four times a week to Kenya’s capital. In 2004, the carrier’s MD-11F fleet chief Fokko Doyen, set up the Cargo Human Care aid project to support orphaned children there, including providing daily medical assistance with the cooperation of German medics.
Jambo Kenya will make its maiden flight to Chicago on 6 December. LC has ordered five brand new B777Fs, with a list price of US$270m as part of the Lufthansa Cargo 2020 programme, centring on growth and modernisation. The B777F can carry up to 103 tonnes of freight and fly non-stop for more than 9,000 km.
