Lufthansa opens new animal facility

LUFTHANSA Cargo has opened the world’s most modern airport animal facility in Frankfurt. The new Frankfurt Animal Lounge near Gate 26 in the north of the airport, accommodates centrally on total floor space of 3,750 m2 the departments for animal transports, which were previously dispersed around the airport complex.

Karl-Heinz Köpfle, member of the Lufthansa Cargo executive board, responsible for operations, said: “In the new Frankfurt Animal Lounge, we offer all customers at Frankfurt Airport an animal handling facility, which is unique of its kind, worldwide, and which once more underlines our high quality standards and our role as the drive of innovation in the international airfreight industry. The Frankfurt Animal Lounge also re-emphasises our commitment to our home base in Frankfurt, the biggest cargo hub in Europe.”

The new building, which complies with stringent EU hygienic and veterinary medicine requirements, was urgently required because the existing facilities had reached their capacity limits. Alongside, Lufthansa Cargo, the Dietz company and Hochtief Construction AG as well as Fraport AG, which made the site available, were also involved in the planning and implementation of the project.

“We are highly delighted that the world’s most modern airport animal station is part of the Frankfurt Airport City, consolidating our competitive edge as an ‘all-cargo airport’.” FRA is an excellent logistics location where all types of airfreight can be trans-shipped,” said Herbert Mai, member of the executive board of Fraport.
