MASkargo lifts Malaysian capacity

A NEW contract signed by MASkargo means the company will deal with 100 metric tonnes more cargo a week in Malaysia.
MASkargo has been contracted to manage and market cargo space for Firefly out of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Sabah and Sarawak.
“The additional belly space offered on Firefly flights would certainly complement the cargo space offered on Malaysia Airlines, as well as our own freighter aircraft to the two states,” MASkargo managing director Shahari Sulaiman said.
The additional capacity would also allow a greater bulk of fresh seafood – key markets in Sabah and Sarawak – to be shipped to the peninsular and other countries.
The expansion will also help boost the development of Kota Kinabalu as Malaysia Airlines’ Eastern hub and benefit cargo shippers such as from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, South Korea and Japan through direct connectivity.
MASkargo handled 12,198 tonnes of cargo in Kota Kinabalu and 12,070 tonnes in Kuching last year. 
This was a significant contribution to its tonnage of more than 750,000 tonnes for 2010.
