Maximus ready for further growth

MAXIMUS Air Cargo is ready for further fleet expansion, according to its president and chief executive officer, Fathi Buhazza (right), and is considering getting into B747-400Fs. “In June we completed five years in business, and we are getting to a point where it is time for growth again,” he says.

Maximus already leases two A300-600 freighters to Etihad, and Buhazza says the airline has just renewed the lease for another 18 months. Maximus has tried to source further aircraft of the same type, but Buhazza says the market is still “behaving strangely”, with passenger variants still on sale at too high a price to justify cargo conversion.

“We have been looking at a couple of aircraft, but we have not been able to secure them,” he says. “The A300 is a very suitable aircraft for this part of the world, with the range to reach Turkey, India and Africa. But some owners seem to prefer to have their aircraft grounded and pay maintenance costs on them.”
