Nigeria agrees Hydro Cargo comp

NIGERIA has agreed to pay US$6 million compensation to South Africa’s Hydro Cargo airline over an accident six years ago.

Air traffic controllers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (right) in Lagos had cleared the 747 to land on a closed runway. It skidded off the runway and was wrecked, leaving the carrier with no other aircraft.

Nigeria now accepts that its Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) is responsible and must pay the damages, but since NAMA will not have the money to do so the central government will pay instead.
