Nigeria could face cargo cold shoulder

THE European Civil Aviation Commission (ECAG) has warned Nigeria that cargo originating from the country will be banned in Europe and the US if it does not meet the deadline to switch from single to dual-view screening.

From next year all airports in the UK will insist on freight being screened from more than one view. Single-view scans have already been phased out in Europe, Australia and the US.

Nigeria has until April 2012 to switch to a dual-view scan system or risk a cargo ban. The Nigerian Aviation Handling Company said it had ordered the dual-view equipment to be utilised at its international airports.
