NZ starts new security protocols

AS of 9 April cargo into New Zealand must pass new security requirements.

The Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand (CAA) now prohibits passenger carriers from also carrying cargo or mail apart under particular requirements. The cargo or mail must be received from a regulated air cargo agent which must provide a declaration of security. The cargo or mail must also be checked by the air operator to ensure that the consignment has not been tampered with.

If the air operator accepts the cargo or mail from a person who is not a regulated agent then the carrier by default accepts all responsibility of the cargo as if it were the agent.

More information on the new regulations can be found at www.caa.govt.nz/Air_Cargo/Air_Cargo.htm
