PACTL celebrates record air cargo month

SHANGHAI Pudong International Airport Cargo Terminal Co (PACTL) has given a boost to air cargo by recording its most successful month ever.
In November, the Sino-German entity saw its tonnage soar by 10.96 per cent year-on-year to 129,363 tonnes – beating its previous record set back in October 2010.
The cargo terminal’s total cargo volumes for the first eleven months of this year were up 2.83 per cent (1,173,784 tonnes) in comparison with 1,141,472 tonnes for the whole of 2012.
Domestic cargo also markedly improved  – 17.53 per cent to 83,171 tonnes during the first eleven months – as did international freight, rising by 1.86 per cent to 1,090,613 tonnes.
“This shows that our domestic business is still developing extremely well, while the international business is growing significantly again,” declares Lutz Grzegorz, vice-president of PACTL.
“In line with these developments, I’m convinced that we’ll see a positive overall performance by the end of the year.”
Meanwhile, imports climbed by 5.24 per cent to 462,287 tonnes during the first eleven months and exports jumped by 1.32 per cent to 711,497 tonnes during the same period.
“Export and import volumes are continuing to complement each other and this will help our customers to operate round-trips more efficiently,” underscores Grzegorz.
