Pan Am to fly again

ONE of the best-known names in the history of aviation, Pan American Airways is poised to take to the air again with a fleet of 727 freighters.
Early next year, declares Bob Hedrick, the fledgling airline’s president and founder, the new Pan Am – the fifth since the original’s demise – will launch freighter flights from the Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport in Texas, a few miles from the Mexican border.
The airport was the regional Latin American gateway and headquarters for the original Pan Am, which went out of business in 1991.
The new carrier operates out of its predecessor’s cargo facility at the airport and management intends to revive the gateway status on the cargo front.
