Pan American plans double cargo hubs

IN the US, Bob Hedrick, president of Texas-based Pan American Airways (PAA), will hold a public meeting on 12 May to present his company’s plans for air cargo hubs in Brownsville (Texas) and St Louis (Missouri).
Hedrick has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the director of Lambert-St Louis International Airport in which PAA detailed plans to invest US$50 million in St Louis and $25m in Brownsville for the development of cargo facilities.
At St Louis Pan Am will occupy about 250,000 sq ft of hangar and warehouse space. The airline would put its primary maintenance facility at Lambert and fly cargo to at least 18 other US airports from St Louis.
In 2011, Pan American Airways will fly 70 cargo flights a month from Brownsville, to destinations in Latin America with the final destination being Rio de Janeiro.
Pan American Airways and its sister company World-Wide Consolidated Logistics have opened a TSA certified cargo screening facility at the Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport.
It is now open to other air cargo charter companies.
