Positive cargo Q3 hike puts a skip in Schiphol

THE GROWTH in air cargo throughput at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol continued throughout the third quarter of 2013, which improved on last year by 2.6 per cent – at 383,780 tonnes.
The latest quarter marked a return to the growth shown in the first quarter of 2013.
A strong September, up 3.9 per cent at 130,631 tonnes, raised the tonnage total for the first nine months of 2013 to 1,120,389 – an improvement of 1.6 per cent on the same period last year.
Asia continued in the top slot, with North America retaining second position.
Schiphol’s air cargo tonnages have shown growth in five out of nine months of this year.
Freighter movements continued to show a slight decline, down 0.2 per cent to 1,334 in September, and 1.4 per cent below 2012, at 1,447 for the year to date.
According to Enno Osinga, Schiphol’s enthusiastic senior vice-president of cargo: “These are pleasing figures. The general trend is positive. 
“This is a strong performance for a major European gateway, which reflects the determined efforts of the airlines, our own team and the logistics community to continue optimising service standards and drive growth at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol,” he adds.
