Power cut shuts two Dubai International runways

DUBAI Airports was forced to divert 50 flights to other regional airports following the loss of power to a critical runway back-up system required during foggy conditions.
The company, which also owns Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), reveals in a statement:  “Dubai Airports is working with airlines, air traffic and ground services staff to restore operations, clear the backlog and limit customer inconvenience.”
Al Ain, Abu Dhabi (UAE), Doha, Qatar, Dammam (Saudi Arabia), Muscat (Oman), and Bahrain were among the airports flights were diverted to.
DWC is to be transformed into as a purpose-built ‘aerotropolis’ with a capacity for handling 12 million tonnes of freight annually compared with its current maximum of 600,000 tonnes.
