Room at the Inn: Liege hosts elite horses ahead of WEG

Hard on the heels of Emirates SkyCargo’s announcement of its involvement in the transportation of horses to the US ahead of the FEI World Equestrian Games, Liege Airport has confirmed its own role in getting the competition under way.
Over 500 horses will depart from the Belgian gateway this month (September), making use of its dedicated Horse Inn that opened in 2016.
David Alexis, deputy general manager of LACHS (which manages the equine facility), said: “We are used to managing the transport of horses for the biggest equestrian competitions in the world, but here the number of horses and flights is much greater.
“We have planned teams of experts at each stage of the handling chain: equipment for the horses, reception of the horses in the boxes, loading the planes and also the cleaning. For each operation, 25 people will be present to ensure smooth running.
“Nothing can be left to chance in this type of operation, which has become a trademark of Lachs and Liege Airport for more than 10 years,” he summed up.
Liege Airport, LACHS and Emirates Sky Cargo are working with equestrian transport and logistics specialist Peden Bloodstock to ensure the wellbeing of the animals during their journey.
