UK supply chain sector demands ‘certainty and direction’ on Brexit as prime minister faces leadership contest

The UK’s supply chain sector is calling for "certainty and direction" as the country’s prime minister faces a vote of confidence that could potentially delay Brexit if she loses.
Earlier today the Conservative party announced that it would hold a confidence vote in prime minister Theresa May after enough party rebels, unhappy with the exit deal agreed with the European Union,  called for a leadership contest.
May has warned that if she loses the vote, taking place on Wednesday evening, the new prime minister would have to delay or even stop Brexit.
Deputy chief executive of the Freight Transport Association James Hookham said: “Business must not be left to carry the can of a botched Brexit because of a loss of momentum in the process and a possible change of leadership of the governing party.
"What industry needs now, with a little over 100 days to go until the UK leaves the EU is certainty and direction on the ways in which we will be trading after 29 March 2019.
"Logistics and supply chain managers are used to fast changing situations but it is now critical that answers are provided to key questions about Britain’s future trading relationship with the EU.
"Business cannot be left bearing the consequences and costs of political hesitation – we want and need to Keep Britain trading.”
