Ukrainian cargo airline hit by EU ban

UKRAINE Cargo Airways has been added to the EU blacklist of airlines banned from flying in EU airspace. The carrier was placed on the list due to current safety concerns over its operations and maintenance.

The updated list now includes three airlines from Ukraine, the other two comprising Ukrainian Mediterranean Airlines and Volare Aviation Enterprise.

In addition Congo’s Hewa Bora Airways has also been added to the list, joining a large number of other African carriers that do not meet EU requirements.

Three other airlines are currently being monitored to see if safety standards have improved sufficiently for removal from the list. Iran’s Mahan Air, Garuda of Indonesia and TAAG Angola. These airlines have safety improvement programmes underway but are yet to pass the EU criteria.
