Uzbekistan opens cargo terminal at Navoi Airport

UZBEKISTAN Airways (UA) has opened a cargo terminal at Navoi International Airport.

The terminal is part of the international intermodal logistics centre the airline is constructing in partnership with Korean Air. It will have facilities to handle perishables, animals and dangerous goods, and be able to handle 100,000 tons per year.

The deal between the two airlines also involved Korean leasing the Uzbek airline two A300-600 freighters.

Korean currently operates a 747 to Navoi 12 times a week on its Incheon-Navoi-Milan, Incheon-Navoi-Brussels and Shanghai-Navoi-Milan routes.

Uzbekistan Airways transported 22,600 tons of freight in the first half of the year, an increase of 250 per cent.
