We’ve gone backwards five years

AN unremitting global slump in demand has knocked the air cargo industry back at least five years.
Cargo volumes have crashed to what they were in 2007/8 – with no immediate prospect of a dramatic recovery.
By contrast, the airline passenger business is booming, with record numbers of travellers heralding new aircraft orders – as airlines expand their route networks.
Steve Gunning, managing director at IAG Cargo – the seventh largest air cargo carrier in the world – says that whereas the passenger business has been growing at a healthy rate, cargo is most definitely not.
