Air cargo innovation across the industry was celebrated at the Air Cargo News Awards today, which marked the 40th year of the event.

Nearly 250 guests gathered for the awards this year, hosted by comedian and broadcaster Zoe Lyons at the Royal Lancaster London hotel, where attendees were able to catch up with colleagues and friends while networking and enjoy a lunch followed an entertaining awards ceremony.

As part of the new awards format, there were nine categories altogether, with the previously voted for Cargo Airline of the Year becoming an entered for category to further strengthen the integrity of the awards.

Sponsored by FlyUs Aviation Group, the Cargo Airline of the Year category attracted a large number of excellent entries, but ultimately Qatar Airways Cargo took the top prize, while Cathay Cargo was highly commended.

As well as retaining this flagship accolade that dates back to the very first version of the Air Cargo News Awards in 1984, the 2024 awards now recognise exceptional work from all facets of the industry, including technology and digitalisation.

The Innovation Award – Product was sponsored by dnata and won by Aurrigo International. The judges also highly commended Asia Airfreight Terminal.

Both Awery Aviation Software and Saudia Cargo were highly commended for the Innovation Award – Digital, which was won by Hermes Logistics Technologies.

Recognising that operations on the ground are integral to those in the air, the Cargo Hub of the Year category was sponsored by Air France KLM Martinair Cargo and won by Hong Kong International Airport.

And on the subject of ground operations, the American Airlines Cargo-sponsored Ground Handler of the Year award was picked up by dnata.

General Sales & Service Agents (GSSA) are another key part of the industry and the GSSA award was secured by FlyUs Aviation Group and sponsored by Etihad Cargo.

Marking the fact that greening operations is an increasingly important part of the industry, the Environment Award was presented to Cathay Cargo Terminal, while LATAM Cargo was highly commended.

And Etihad Cargo took home the Hong Kong International Airport-sponsored Air Cargo Pharma award, which Qatar Airways Cargo and Sonoco Thermosafe were also both highly commended for.

Finally, to recognise rising stars and future leaders from across the airfreight sector, this year there was a new Young Airfreight Professional of the Year category supported by SHK Solutions and neAira Governance and Consultancy, which will offer a career coaching package to our winner.

There were four talented finalists, but the winner was Anna Balan, head of CargoBooking at Awery Aviation Software.

Once again, we’d like to give a huge thank you to all our sponsors and judges who have played an integral part in the Awards this year.

We are also grateful for each and every one of our guests who have helped make the Awards a success once again!

Everyone’s a winner at the Air Cargo News Awards 2023
