UPS has appointed John Bolla as the new president of its Healthcare arm.

He brings two decades of experience in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, having previously worked for GSK and other pharma companies.

He joined UPS in April 2022, leading global healthcare logistics and distribution operations in the Americas, Europe and the Asia Pacific Middle East and Africa (AMEA) region.

Prior to joining UPS, he was chief operations officer at Adare Pharma Solutions, responsible for global sales, operations, contract development and manufacturing strategy across the US and Europe.

At GSK he held several positions, eventually becoming vice president of North American supply chain and then senior vice president of third-party sales and contract manufacturing.

After leaving GSK, Bolla joined Lantheus Holdings – a global specialty pharma and imaging company– as chief operations officer, where he led commercial and technical performance.

Bolla said: “I am grateful for the opportunity to lead UPS Healthcare and more than 10,000 healthcare logistics experts and a global network spanning 220 countries and territories worldwide.

“Together with this team of dedicated professionals, we will continue helping healthcare companies make their operations more precise, productive, scalable and smart.”

Executive vice president and president of UPS International, Healthcare and Supply Chain Solutions, Kate Gutmann, added that John Bolla would bring: “a wealth of healthcare and pharmaceutical experience after a long career in the pharmaceuticals and medical device industry. I am confident that under his leadership, UPS Healthcare will continue on its path to accelerated growth”.

Bolla’s appointment follows the retirement of Wes Wheeler earlier this year, who served in the role for over three years.

Wheeler was previously chief executive of healthcare logistics firm Marken, before its acquisition by UPS in 2016, after which he launched the healthcare vertical.
