Swissport appoints Western Europe head

Ground handler Swissport has appointed Liam McElroy as head of its Western Europe region, effective immediately.

In his new role, McElroy, who succeeds Jason Holt, will lead Swissport’s UK and Ireland cargo handling operations while reporting to Luzius Wirth, executive vice president EMEA and member of the group’s executive management.

Prior to joining Swissport, McElroy spent 13 years at Wincanton, one of the UK’s largest logistics company, providing supply chain consultancy and services. His most recent role at Wincanton was managing director of retail and consumer, as well as being a member of the executive board.

McElroy also previously worked as regional distribution director at Tesco and operations director at Exel (now DHL).

Commenting on the managerial changes, Wirth said: “We are pleased to welcome McElroy as new head of Swissport Western Europe.

“We are also grateful to Holt for his valuable contributions to Swissport over the years. He has been fully committed to the Western Europe area, where most recently he has done much to limit the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on our business and on our people, both economically and in terms of protecting the reputation of Swissport and its staff.”
