Schneider looks to utilise more ocean shipping and SAF to reduce emissions

Schneider Electric is continuing its efforts to cut emissions through increased use of ocean transport and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) though a new partnership with DHL Global Forwarding.
The two firms will develop what they have termed multimodal shipping bridges between Singapore and North America and between India and North America that will utilise ocean shipping and sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs).
The France-headquartered energy management firm said that cost savings generated by using more seafreight can be used to purchase SAF.
The partners explained that orders are delivered either by airfreight or shipping, depending on capacity, air surges, margins, customer offers, and stock availability.
Schneider Electric estimates that these bridges, by using a combination of air and sea transport, will reduce the carbon emissions of these regional shipment lanes by up to 40% compared to normal air fulfilment.
The two firms launched a pilot project in March 2023 and since then have seen carbon emissions reduce by 20%.
Schneider Electric has launched a similar project with DSV on shipments between Singapore and France and Shanghai and France.
In total, Schneider Electric plans to design and execute eight global multimodal bridges with its logistics partners that can be deployed on demand.
