Jettainer signs WestJet deal

Lufthansa Cargo’s ULD management subsidiary, Jettainer, is to manage and maintain pallets and containers for Canada’s WestJet Airlines, following the start of its first widebody service to Europe.
Initially, WestJet will have access to a fleet of nearly 400 pallets and containers for the first of four Boeing 767-300 ER aircraft recently delivered. Further units will be added as the aircraft fleet expands.
Jettainer’s managing director, Carsten Hernig, said the deal would “further strengthen our position in the Americas, one of our most important growth markets.” Jettainer has recently taken over ULD management for American Airlines and KF Aerospace and, in 2014, established Jettainer Americas with several offices across the continent.
Carsten Hernig’s strategy is to target low cost carriers and leisure airlines, which are expanding their product portfolio by adding wide-body aircraft to their fleets and serving long-haul destinations. He said: “Such companies highly appreciate having a strong partner offering both a global network and the complete ULD management service portfolio which includes the steering, positioning, maintenance and repair of loading devices.”
