Brussels gives green light to FedEx-TNT deal

FedEx and TNT Express say that the European Commission will not object to their planned merger, ahead of the expiry of a deadline on 23 October. The announcement clears a significant hurdle for the deal. Although clearance from competition authorities in other countries is still needed, the European Commission’s assent is significant as Brussels scuppered a similar merger between UPS and TNT in 2013. FedEx’s offer for TNT is now expected to close in the first half of 2016.
