Nippon Express (NX) has launched a new airfreight service from Chubu Centrair International Airport in Japan to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) Airport in Kentucky to serve demand in nearby Ohio.
The Japanese logistics company said cargo bound for Ohio has until now been delivered via Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, but it decided to utilise CVG for the new “NX-FORWARDING – AIR – Ohio Midnight Express” high-speed service to minimise delivery times.
The service sees cargo delivered in the evening to Chubu Airport, where Nippon Express operates an international cargo handling site.
Cargo shipments are then loaded aboard a direct flight to Cincinnati late that same night. On arrival, they are picked up for distribution by Nippon Express USA’s Columbus branch in Ohio.
Nippon Express did not confirm other supply chain partners are involved in the service.
“Ohio is one of the most industrialised states in the US, with a variety of companies in the automotive-related and other industries operating there. Demand for urgent cargo transport to Ohio is thus on the rise, especially among customers in the Midwest, where automotive-related industries are thriving,” explained Nippon Express in a press release.
Same-day delivery within Ohio is made possible by combining transport from the Columbus Branch to the delivery destination with Nippon Express’ (optional) urgent delivery service.
“Integrating both arrival and departure operations within the NX Group reduces lead time by approximately one day vis-à-vis the Group’s conventional service. Delivery can be arranged not only to Ohio but also to neighbouring states such as West Virginia,” said the logistics firm.
Nippon Express expanded its global reach last year with the acquisition of Austrian logistics provider cargo-partner.
The deal saw the combined company become one of the top five airfreight forwarders with volumes of more than 1m tonnes.
