Brazilian aerospace company Embraer has obtained type certification for its E190 passenger to freighter conversion from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

The EASA published the type certificate document, dated November 7, on its website.

“The Type Design, system reliability and performance of the ERJ 190-100ECJ model (commercially known as Lineage 1000) was found capable for Extended Range Operations iaw AMC 20-6 as documented in CRI G-2, when configured, maintained and operated in accordance with the current revision of the ETOPS Configuration, Maintenance and Procedures (CMP) document, CMP-2926,” stated the document.

Embraer’s E190 conversion and cargo loading system were also certified by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in September.

Earlier this year, Air Cargo News reported on the completion of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) installation conformity for the E190. According to US aerospace company US Cargo Systems, the company worked with Embraer to carry out the certification process in May.

The FAA approval followed on from certification from the the National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC) in July.

Embraer launched its programme to convert E190 and E195 passenger aircraft to freighters in March 2022.

The E-Jet freighter programme has been created in response to e-commerce growth and increased demand for cargo capacity, especially to smaller markets.

If combining capacity under the floor and main deck, the maximum structural payload is 13,500 kg for the E190F and 14,300 kg for the E195F.

Embraer said in January that it plans to start physical work on its first E195 freighter conversion next year.

In April, the company’s first passenger to freighter E190F aircraft successfully completed its first test flight in São José dos Campos, Brazil.
