Freighter conversions up 11% in 2017

The number of aircraft converted to freighters increased by 11% last year, with the widebody segment driven by demand for B767 cargo aircraft.
Research from publication Flight Global using Flight Fleets Analyzer data, shows that there were a total of 110 conversions last year, up from 99 in 2017 and 84 in 2016.
The widebody segment had 31 conversions, led by demand for B767-300 aircraft with work carried out on 27 of the aircraft.
Airlines receiving B767s conversions were Amazon Air, Cargojet, Kalitta and UPS. Other widebody conversion were two A330-300s, one A330-200 and one A300-600.
On the narrowbody market there were 60 conversions last year, up from 54 in 2017. There were 35 conversions of B737 aircraft (24 x -400s, 3 x 700s, 8 x 800s), 22 for the B757-200 and three MD-80s.
SF Airlines, ASL Belgium and DHL Air received the most narrowbody conversions.
