Menzies implements truck slot booking at LAX

Cargo handler Menzies Aviation has implemented a truck slot booking system at LAX as it looks to reduce truck waiting times.

The handler opted for Nallian’s Truck Visit Management Solution which allows forwarders and trucking firms to book an arrival slot.

The system gives the handler an overview of when a truck will arrive with that information displayed on a big screen at the front desk and in the warehouse.

Upon arrival and departure, the truck driver self-registers at a digital desk, which runs on an Ipad installed in the registration area and available in Spanish and English.

In the near future, the system will be fully integrated with Menzies’ back-end system.

Petr Cizek, general manager of the facility, said: “We used to have no visibility on who would be coming when to pick up or drop off goods. Trucks would show up unannounced, which created waiting times.

“[The system] eliminates wait times and it enables us to offer a better and faster service at the dock door since we can plan staff and prepare freight for the scheduled pick ups and drop offs.”

Lily Mejia, front desk operator, added: “The system makes my work a lot easier. I now have a clear overview of who is coming and when. I spend less time on administration and discussions with drivers and can focus on ensuring the continuity of the flow and handling visits that require special attention instead.”
