Swissport has begun air cargo handling services for Qatar Airways’ new weekly freighter flights between Vienna International Airport in Austria and Hamad International Airport in Doha.

“This marks a significant milestone for Swissport as we expand our operations in Vienna and solidify our position as a leading provider of air cargo solutions,” said Swissport in a LinkedIn post on September 3.

The ground handler added that its Wien-Schwechat Air Cargo Center has been expanded to accommodate increased e-commerce demand, and said it “anticipate even more growth in the coming months”.

In April, Swissport Cargo Services Austria was awarded TAPA FSR-C certification for its air cargo logistics handling operations at Vienna International Airport.

Swissport opened its 8,000 sq m air cargo warehouse in Fischamend in 2022. The facility is connected with Swissport’s on-airport cargo centre at Vienna International Airport by a dedicated electric truck.

This allowed Swissport to further expand its cargo activities and to grow its freight forwarder handling business. In 2024, 120,000 tons are expected to be handled in Vienna.
