Swissport gains health and safety certificate

Swissport has gained ISO 45001 occupational health and safety management certification for its global network.

The ground services and cargo handler said that the certification, from Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), demonstrated its dedication to creating a safe and healthy work environment for its 60,000 employees worldwide.

Adherence to the highest occupational health and safety standards fostered a culture of prevention, risk mitigation and employee well-being, it added.

The certification applies to all Swissport’s operations at nearly 300 stations across 44 countries, creating a unified and robust occupational health and safety management approach across its diverse business lines. These include ground operations including cargo handling as well as passenger services and baggage handling and fuelling. 

To gain certification, Swissport underwent a review and audit of its activities by LRQA, carried out over several days at different locations worldwide including on-site inspections to verify compliance with ISO 45001 standards and to assess the effectiveness of its occupational health and safety management  systems.

LRQA will now conduct annual surveillance audits of Swissport, with recertification required every three years.

Swissport head of quality, health, safety and environment, David Clark, said: “The safety and well-being of our employees are our top priorities. He said it was a testament to the company’s robust safety management system, with comprehensive training, rigorous risk assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives.

“We are committed to promoting a culture of safety that protects our employees and safeguards the operations of our airline and airport partners,” added Clark.
