Swissport’s cargo centers in Madrid (MAD) and Barcelona (BCN) have achieved Good Distribution Practice (GDP) certification for pharmaceutical handling.

The ground handler said in a LinkedIn post today that the certification would strengthen its pharmaceutical logistics business.

“This certification highlights our commitment to the safe handling, storage, and transportation of medicines and active ingredients, ensuring product integrity and quality at every stage of the supply chain,” said Swissport.

“With GDP certification, we meet the highest industry standards, offering our customers the peace of mind that their pharmaceutical shipments are managed with the utmost care and reliability.”

The MAD and BCN facilities are now part of a global network of 23 certified Swissport pharma centres.

In June, Swissport opened a new “Cool+Connect” pharma facility at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse that allows it to consolidate shipments at the airport and reduce truck journeys.

Swissport’s air cargo centre at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) was in the same month reawarded with IATA’s CEIV Pharma (Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Pharmaceutical Logistics) certification.
