E-air waybills use up by 0.2%

The penetration of international airfreight markets by electronic air waybills (e-AWBs) nudged up by 0.2% to 50.9% in September, according to the latest IATA figures.
However, the level is substantially below the 60.2% target set by IATA for December this year.
Total number of e-AWBs in September was 797,940, compared with 791,474 in August.
Of the top ten countries of origin ranked by e-AWB volume, first-ranked China’s penetration rate inched up from 52.3% to 52.7%. Second-ranked US was unchanged at 44.3% while third-ranked Hong Kong was down slightly, from 67.0% 66.3%.
South Korea, in fifth place, rose from 54.1% to 56.1% and there was also a significant gain in tenth-placed Netherlands, from 54.6% to 55.7%.
Of the main e-AWB airlines, fourth-ranked Korean Air rose from 55.6% to 58.8%, while Emirates (in seventh) fell from 38.3% to 36.8%. Ninth-placed rose from  45.7% to 47.2% while tenth-placed Delta fell from 73.0% to 71.6%.
Top placed forwarder DHL’s rate fell from 58.3% to 57.4% and sixth-placed Nippon Express penetration increased from 45.9% to 47.1%.
