Slow start for e-AWB take-up in January

Electronic air waybill (e-AWB) penetration got off to a sluggish start in January, with a 0.8% increase on December 2015.
Latest IATA statistics for January 2016 show that the use of e-AWB  among its member airlines stood at 37.2%, versus a 56% target for the end of this year.
Despite missing the 45% penetration target for 2015, IATA remains confident that the programme will receive a significant boost with the launch this year of eAWB360, which is a market and community driven approach to aligned e-AWB implementation and synchronized market communications.
The e-AWB360 programme will target an initial list of nine airports to roll out this community based approach to e-AWB implementation.
IATA has 17 major airlines committed to e-AWB360. It launched at Amsterdam airport in January, with London and Frankfurt this month, followed in March by another six airports.
