Vertannes joins SmartKargo

IATA’s ex-head of cargo, Des Vertannes, has joined air cargo software company SmartKargo as a strategic adviser.
Vertannes, who now divides his time between UK and Portugal, was at IATA for four years and before that led airline cargo teams at British Airways, Air Canada, and Etihad, in a career spanning four decades.
Jay Shelat, SmartKargo executive VP, sales and marketing, said that Vertannes’ experience, knowledge, and network “are unsurpassed.”
Vertannes added that he was a strong advocate of e-freight and for a paperless industry, “because I have worked for decades to modernise and streamline air cargo process, a task that starts with capable IT."
He added: "No other cargo platform can do what SmartKargo does."
IT Cloud-based paperless transactions can be used on any Internet-enabled device with information instantly accessible to every stakeholder in the air cargo chain.
