Aeroflot Cargo declared bankrupt

AEROFLOT Cargo has been declared bankrupt. Rumours that the carrier was struggling have been working their way around the industry for some time.
Freighter services of the Russian carrier will continue for a short time but will stop soon after (an exact timeframe is not yet known). After that, operations will be systematically rolled back into its parent company – Aeroflot. Those freighters will then re-enter Aeroflot service in March 2010.Aeroflot has subsequently stated that the fleet of three MD-11F freighters and the existing team of sales executives, pilots and engineers will join the new cargo department now being set up. Oleg Korolev, the current chief executive officer of Aeroflot Cargo, shall carry on as a head of cargo, Aeroflot- Russian Airlines. The new cargo department, as the successor, to Aeroflot-Cargo will honour all previous obligations.
