Africa West Cargo expands network

AFRICA West Cargo started new direct MD-11F operations from the US and Milan (Italy) to Lomé (Togo).

The inaugural flight departed from New York and Chicago on 2 July, with the Milan flight following a day later using the aircraft leased from Cargoitalia.

“The new MD-11F will allow Africa West Cargo to continue to provide a flexible freighter service to its customers across Europe, the US and the Middle East,” Yannick Erbs, managing director at Africa West Cargo, said. “With an increased payload of up to 85 tons, we are now better able to support our clients’ needs.”

Africa West Cargo is also adding two new destinations to its network within the west: Freetown (Sierra Leone) and Monrovia (Liberia), bringing the total scheduled destinations served across the region to 10.

The airline, which recently returned to independent ownership, is now in discussions to operate an additional weekly freighter service from Europe to Lomé from autumn 2011, increasing services to twice a week.

In related news, Air Logistics Group has recently been appointed as general sales and services agent for the airline in a number of territories including the US and the UK.
