BDP establishes new company in India

US forwarder BDP International and local logistics company Unique Global Logistics Private Limited (UGL), have formed a new logistics joint venture in India. With BDP as the majority partner, the new subsidiary company – BDP Global Logistics (India) – will be based in Mumbai but with a presence in all major Indian cities.

Richard Bolte (right), president and chief executive officer of BDP, said: “As more of the world’s largest manufacturers and retailers establish their operations in India, BDP sees an opportunity to contribute to the growing need for specialised logistics services.

“BDP will target India’s expanding chemicals, life-sciences, healthcare, retail, telecom and manufacturing industries,” he explained. “India is a key focus for BDP over the next decade as the nation emerges as a true economic powerhouse.”

The chemical sector accounts for 13 to 14 per cent of India’s total exports and eight to nine per cent of total imports.
