Cargo Airline of the Year award

VIRGIN have been crowned Cargo Airline of the Year, for the sixth time at Air Cargo News’ prestigious award ceremony on 26 April.

The only industry awards voted for exclusively by freight forwarders, and fully audited by an independent body, was celebrating 25 years as the most coveted prize in air cargo. The jubilee event, was attended by over 500 of the industry’s top executives from around the world.

This year’s voting nominated airlines from the specific regions, as well as the overall cargo airline of the year winner. Over 19,000 online votes were cast and all votes were audited by BIFA – The British International Freight Association.

Other winners on the night were: Glasgow Prestwick Airport, – Best cargo airport up to 100,000 tonnes, Munich International Airport – Best cargo airport between 100-500,000 tonnes, Miami International Airport – Best cargo airport over 500,000 tonnes, Stan Wraight – Lifetime achievement award, Cargolux – Best all cargo Airline, Emirates – Best Middle East cargo airline, South African Airways – Best African cargo airline, Cathay Pacific – Best Asia Pacific cargo airline, American Airlines – Best North American cargo airline, Lan Cargo – Best Latin American cargo airline, Jet Airways – Best Central Asian cargo airline, Swiss WorldCargo – Best European cargo airline, and DHL Global Forwarding for the new Freight Forwarder of the Year award.

The awards were presented by TV personality Gyles Brandreth, with Jimmy Tarbuck and Kenny Lynch providing the cabaret and a special guest appearance by the band of the Scot’s Guards.
