Cargo arms dealer incarcerated

‘THE Merchant of Death’ Victor Bout has been found guilty of dealing weapons to terrorists on cargo jets.

Bout, 44, was extradited from Thailand to the US in 2010 for conspiring to kill US service personnel and to sell anti-aircraft weapons.

Bout thought he was selling to the Colombian terrorist organisation FARC, which was actually posing US intelligence agents. He faces a minimum of 25 years and possibly up to life in prison.

His lawyer had tried to argue in court that the Russian had in reality quit the arms trade and was merely playing a charade to further his real goal, which was to sell two unwanted freighters.
