Cascade delivers first Q400-PF

CASCADE Aerospace has delivered the world’s first Q400-PF Package Freighter to launch customer, Nord-Flyg of Eskilstuna, Sweden. This latest Cascade conversion turns a passenger-carrying Bombardier Q400 aircraft into a bulk-loaded cargo hauler. A second aircraft for Nord-Flyg is expected to be converted in the spring of 2009.

The Q400-PF has a maximum payload of 8,980 kgs (19,800 pounds) and a volume payload of 80 cubic meters (2,827 cubic feet).

“The Q400-PF aircraft will fill a gap because there is no other turboprop in the freight business that offers a 360-knot speed and can comfortably fly more than the 1,296 km (700 nautical miles) required for our operations,” said Ulf Darenius, president of Nord-Flyg. “The Q400-PF is a very competitive, efficient, environmentally friendly and operationally reliable aircraft that will open up a new segment of freighter operations,” he added.

The Q400-PF is certified by Transport Canada under a Supplemental Type Certificate, and FAA (US) and EASA (European) certification are expected to follow.
