Corruption raid at Chennai cargo centre

NINE Customs officials at Chennai airport’s air cargo complex have been arrested for corruption. The nine, which included four superintendents, were charged with accepting bribes to clear Customs without having to pay duty.The Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) Anti-Corruption Branch took the nine into custody and confiscated over US$90,000 in cash and jewelleryChennai Airport’s director Kandasawamy Natarajan called reports in the Indian media that he had been forced to resign following the raid both “false and mala fide”.
